INTERCESSORS FOR MELBOURNE

PRAYER LEADERS/FACILITATORS

Prayer leaders are those who equip the Saints for the ministry of intercession. (Eph 4:12-13 NIV) to prepare God's people for works of service, so that the body of Christ may be built up {13} until we all reach unity in the faith and in the knowledge of the Son of God and become mature, attaining to the whole measure of the fullness of Christ.
Prayer leaders have a wider mix of gifts than other intercessors.
Prayer leaders have a clear vision of the particular sphere of responsibility.
They keep the group focused and feel free to decline other requests for prayer that's outside of their calling.
They know the territory they are assigned by God; e.g. the tribes of Israel were assigned specific territory, Acts 1:8 speaks of spheres of influence.
Acts 1:8 also speaks of strategy - First: Jerusalem; Second: Judea; Third: Samaria; Fourth: the world.
A prayer leader discerns the strategic steps for a group's welfare.
Prayer leaders usually begin in Jerusalem/locally, before they receive a wider responsibility.
Prayer leaders learn to submit to leadership and be servant to the group for the Lord.
Prayer leaders seek to care for the members of the team.
Prayer leaders may or may not have a gift mix that includes that of a prophetic intercessor, but they will certainly value the insights and discernment of spiritual strongholds.
Prayer leaders will have a core group with whom they meet regularly for counsel and prayer support.

AVOIDING ERRORS IN INTERCESSION

  1. Use clear, Biblical guidelines as your standard for intercession.
  2. Be accountable in ministry: Don't be afraid of having what you believe God has shown you judged.
  3. You must be in love, unity and submission to the leadership of every ministry you pray for.
  4. Keep a clean heart before God. Psalm 51:10 "Create in me a clean heart, 0 God."
  5. Beware of spiritual pride, especially when receiving revelations.
  6. Avoid praying against a person; e.g. remove them from office. These types of prayers violate the principles of mercy. By definition, an intercessor stands in the gap for those who are often going wrong. (Hab 2:2 NIV) Then the LORD replied: "Write down the revelation and make it plain on tablets so that a herald may run with it.
  7. Don't "bear someone else's burdens" or sickness. God's Word tells us that Jesus bore our sins and sickness in His body on the Cross (1 Peter 2:24). Intercessors stand in the gap before God asking for His help and mercy.
  8. Never pray for anything that is contrary or out of line with a church's or pastor’s leadership. Do not pray manipulatively; words are powerful. Proverbs 18:21 says, "Death and life are in the power of the tongue".
  9. Focus your prayer on God's living Word as led by the Holy Spirit. Learn to pray the Word for any given situation, as led by the Spirit. Seek God for His living or rhema word for every situation in which you minister.
